Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mothers who read this post! Your job is often a thankless job, but I could not think of any earthly job that is more important. So very much of being a Mother is selflessness. It is a constant ‘give’ that seems to often not get much in return. Not that getting anything in return is the goal, but gratefulness and thankfulness sure do go a long way to ensuring that you know you are loved and appreciated.
Every Mother’s Day, I often get reflective on how Mary had to feel as she finally got a quiet moment alone with her new baby after all of the Wise Men and the guests bringing gifts had all left. She would have certainly cuddled him and have given him the softest kiss on his little head. Mary actually kisses the very face of God!!! Mary changed the diaper of God!! Yet before that day, Mary went through persecution and gossip and hardships as everyone certainly felt that she had to have been a liar, or at least mentally insane to be telling everyone that she had gotten pregnant without ever having slept with any man.
Then of course some 30+ years later it would be Mary who was standing at the foot of the cross and watched her son die. Having extensively studied the Scriptures, I can tell you that the movies and pictures get it all wrong. The crosses that people were crucified on were actually only about three feet high off the ground. Why do I mention this? Well because that means that Mary would have been able to look Jesus in the eye and truly feel his anguish as He was hanging there. Along with Motherhood can certainly come great pain and trials, yet few Mom’s would ever say that it is not worth every second of it.
This Mother’s Day I pray that if you are fortunate enough to still have your Mother with you that you would reach out to her and let her know just how valuable she is to you. Not just because she gave birth to you, but for all of the millions of other things that she did for you ‘just because she wanted to’. Godly Mother’s who pray with their children and teach them how to walk with the Lord are invaluable to our world and I like to think that there will be many rewards for them in Heaven not given to others.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mom’s out there! We love you! We appreciate you! We could not be who we are today without you! Thank God for you!
