A Prophet Without Honor

Mark 6:4-6:

Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.He was amazed at their lack of faith.

It is hard to understand sometimes but often times it is our very families that can hurt us the most.  Here in Mark 6 we see that the Bible tells us that “He could not do any miracles there.”  Jesus was in His own hometown with His own family and they were mocking Him and making fun of Him even when they knew who He was and what He could do.

What is it about our own families that seems to hurt us more than others?  Well we know we love them more than others so naturally it would hurt us more if they hurt us versus someone we hardly know, but then again, since they are our families, shouldn’t they NOT want to hurt us at all?

You have to wonder how Jesus felt when the people from His hometown were making fun of Him and calling His a lunatic.  Here He was healing the sick, the blind, and the invalid and the very people, His one time friends that He grew up with, were calling Him names and telling Him to leave.

I hope you notice verse 6 here in Mark 6:4-6 – “He was amazed at their lack of faith.”

Stop and think about this for just a moment – God Himself was amazed at their lack of faith.  God knows everything, past, present, and future and even He was amazed at the lack of faith of the people.  People who watched Him do amazing things and yet still had no faith in Him.

God still does this today.  He looks down at a nation that has mostly turned its back on Him – a nation who is much more worried about themselves than they are anyone else – and He is “amazed at our lack of faith.”

Do not let yourself be the person who God is amazed at.  Instead when you think about God, think about all He has done, is doing, and will do for you and then know in your heart and mind that He is a great God who is bigger than us and is worthy of every ounce of our praise.

Never forget that another time God got amazed at people were the people that ended up getting washed away in the flood that Noah told them would come, yet they made fun of him too for building a boat in the middle of the desert.  They made fun of Noah for his faith.

Always let your faith in God be what drives you each and every day.  Wake up and praise God and have faith that His plan for you in awesome and that He is for you.  Then, nothing can stop you!!!

With Love,

Pastor Brad Komgenick
