Dead Ends

“I am so sick of waiting for God to do something about my situation.”

“I ave been waiting for 6 months and nothing is changing in my situation.”

“Nothing will ever change in my life.  It will always be this bad or worse.”

“It seems like I will never catch a break.  I never seen any sunshine at all.”

“I am this far on giving up on God altogether.  Why would a loving God let me endure all of this heartache for such a long period of time without doing a single thing to help me?”

These statements all fall under the category of “Spiritual Dead Ends”.  You feel like your life is at a full stop – a total dead end that leads nowhere and there is not way to get it turned around.  This is most certainly a trial by God to see just how much faith in Him you have and just how much you love Him and just how long you are willing to wait on Him.

Let me remind you of Abraham.  Abraham was 75 years old when God told him to sell it all and leave home to a place that God was not even going to tell Abraham where it was.  On top of that, God promised to make Abraham the father of a great nation and told him he would have more descendants than there are stars in the sky.

So let’s recap:

  1. Sell everything you have (oh and you are about the richest man at the time)
  2. Pick up and begin moving in a direction but the destination is unknown
  3. Somehow at a very old age you and your wife will have a child

So what did Abraham do?  Exactly what God told him to do – he sold it all and set up in the direction God told him to go.  Now that is the kind of faith that we all strive to have isn’t it?  Yet even Abraham struggled with his faith.  At one point in Egypt Abraham told his wife to lie and tell the people she was his sister and not his wife so that the men would not kill him to take his wife.  Now that certainly is not trusting God at all is it?  So did God immediately bring sickness and bad luck and death down on Abraham for struggling with his faith?  No, of course not.  God simply tested him again with the exact same situation a little later and what did Abraham do that time?  Well he did the exact same thing and asked his wife to lie.  Therefore God put off their blessing even longer.  In fact, Abraham and Sarah would be almost 100 before they would have their first child – but make no mistake – God always keeps His promises.  Yet Abraham waited 25 YEARS for his promise to come through.

Friend if you have been waiting 6 months for something to happen or change in your life, you may have a very long road ahead of you.  But if you are like Abraham and you keep your eyes set on God and not your problem, then you too will receive blessings from God that are innumerable.

Let me remind you of 1 Peter 1:6-7:

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

You see, the waiting happens because God wants you to prove the genuineness of your faith to Him – and He is willing to wait as long as it takes for you to prove that to Him.  It took Abraham and Sarah 25 years to do it, but when they did, they were blessed beyond measure.

Next let me remind you of 2 Corinthians 1:8-9:

” We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters,[a] about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”

Here the Apostle Paul says that he was ready for death itself to come take him, but once he remembered that he was to rely on God instead of himself, all things got better.

Are you fighting, fussing, and relying on yourself instead of turning your trials over to God and relying on Him to take care of them?  God will turn your dead ends into highways of blessing, but you must get out of His way and let Him work.

2 Corinthians 1:10 summarizes it extremely well for us:

10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,”

We must always remember all of the times when God has already delivered us through previous trials and then rely that He will do it again.

Beloved, your road blocks are there, and will be there, until you boost your faith in God, stop relying on your own power, and relinquish your entire life to God and ask Him to give you the strength to endure the road block until your faith is built to the level of God’s pleasure.  Then the road block will be removed.

I know road blocks are not easy.  I live with my share of them to this very day, but each day I ask God to make known to me the areas of my life I am holding back from Him and the areas where I need to boost my faith.  When I do, He is faithful to show me and then it is up to me to act.  I pray you will do the same so that you can start living the triumphant Christian life that God has planned for you.

With great Love and Hope for you,

Pastor Brad Komgenick
