“Just The Way You Are”

I was listening to an “oldies” station on the radio on my way home today and one of my absolute favorite songs came on and I cranked it up and I sang along with it like I was doing a duet with Mr. Joel himself.

The song is called “Just The Way You Are”.  It is about a man who is trying to tell his loved one that they should never try to change just to please them.  He loved them with their quirks, and hairstyle, and temperament – actually he loved her just the way she was.

God sings this same song to us every day.  God loves us just as we are.  We do not have to prove a single thing to God in order for him to love us.  God would like for us to be more like His Son, Jesus Christ, but He knows that is a life long journey where we fail and succeed and fail and succeed – two steps forward and one step back.

I find it incredibly comforting though that I do not have to do a single thing to earn God’s love, or to try to make Him love me.  He just does because God is love.

So “Don’t go changin, to try to please me”, “I love you just the way you are” is what God is singing to you right now.

I pray that you have an amazingly blessed weekend spent in love and worship to the God who loves you just the way you are.
