What does Easter mean to you? I mean really mean to you. We all know that marshmallow peeps and chocolate bunnies have nothing to do with the real meaning of the day. But is it wrong to enjoy things like these? Does God see it as wrong to share an Easter basket with your children on the day His Son Jesus was resurrected?
Well the answer is – it is all in what Easter REALLY means to you. You see, if you truly understand that Easter is the day we celebrate the fact that Jesus, the Christ, came to this Earth to give his life as a ransom for the entire world, and that on this Sunday He showed the world that death could not hold Him, just as He told us it could not, and that we celebrate the fact that the resurrected Jesus rose from that tomb three days after he was buried and went to be with the Father in Heaven until such a time as God sees fit to send Him back and call all of His children home to Heaven, then by all means crack open those delicious peeps and throw a few back in celebration of the risen Savior.
But if you have no clue what Jesus is all about, and Easter is one of the two days that someone you know drags you to church and then you have to go have dinner with some family and hide eggs from the kids, well then I’m sorry but you have totally not only missed out on the meaning of Easter, but your very eternity is in jeopardy, and you have much more to worry about than decorated eggs.
I pray that you will take time this week (well, every week, but particularly this Easter week) and reflect on just what Jesus means to you.
I can tell you that for me, Jesus is everything. I would not be here without Jesus and I would not have even the slightest chance of getting anywhere near Heaven and an eternity of blissful worship to Jesus, without Jesus. Therefore Jesus is my all in all. No questions asked. I owe everything I am, have, do, and ever will have, will be, and will do to Jesus Christ who WILLINGLY gave His life so that I could have this life and the best eternity there is. In my opinion, every single day should be treated like Easter, with churches full of grateful people who love Jesus, in good time and in bad times. We must learn to love Jesus at ALL times. He is not a genie in a bottle that we run to when we get into trouble. Jesus made you! Do you not feel, even the tiniest bit, that you might owe Him some reverence, love, and gratitude?
Yes it is perfectly fine to celebrate with colorful decorated eggs, and Easter baskets, and even peeps – just as long as what you are celebrating is the fact that Jesus gave it all for you. Any other reason than that means you do not understand Jesus as you ought to and therefore your celebration will be very short lived.
This Easter, my prayer for you and your family is to have some quiet, prayerful time alone with the God who created you and thank Him for your entire life. You will put a smile on God’s face that will rival the smile on the childrens faces as they open their baskets on Easter morning.
May God bless you and your family this Easter week and I hope to see you in church this weekend as we give honor, and all praises to Jesus for what He did for us.
Happy Easter and He is Risen!! He is Risen indeed!
