God is right where He belongs – with you everywhere you go, with you every minute of every day, carrying you when you cannot walk another step, crying with you when you hurt, smiling with you when you are joy filled. Yet we can often times feel alone.
We feel like God is a million miles away and could really care less about what is going on in our lives. After all we are so insignificant in the big picture right? Plus we know how unworthy we are since all we do is sin all the time, right? We always do what we know we shouldn’t and never do what we know we should, correct? We are selfish, childish, people who love to gossip and can’t wait to hear stories of others struggling to make our selves feel better, right?
All of that may true my friend – I personally can testify to each one of these things happening in my own life. If I am being perfectly honest with you, very recently I too felt like God just threw up His hands with me and gave up.
Then God reminded me that He loves me just as I am – including every single goof up, mistake, foul up, hurtful words used, and immoral thoughts running through my head. Yes, God STILL loves me, and He loves you too no matter what you have done or where you are currently at in your struggles in your life. God is right there with you.
Our issue we we often refuse to stop and notice Him, talk straight up with Him about our feelings, and be truthful with Him. I recently had a shouting match with God over a surgery I just had. I had great expectations about the surgery and just knew I’d be totally cured and back to normal in days. When word came from the doctor that my recovery would take months and that it may or may not have worked, “we will just have to wait and see”, well to say the least I was furious.
I cussed, I stomped around, I began to feel sorry for myself, and of course I focused on what I lost instead of being thankful that I even lived through the surgery, much less being thankful and grateful for all of the many things I still do have. Sure I lost my hearing in my left ear, sure I will never be able to ever sing correctly again, sure I will probably have balance problems going forward, and of course, I would have to leave things behind like riding roller coasters and even running fast. That sure is a ton of things to lose isn’t it?
No, not really. I’m still breathing, I still have an amazing family, I still am able to work, I still am able to use the ear that works to listen to people and help them with their lifes issues, I can still walk, I can still smell, I can still see, and above all, God STILL love me and is with me always. Praise God for that!
God has never left my side, so why am I looking for Him?????
Because I let my focus drift to my problems instead of mt God who is bigger than my problems.
Can you relate to my story? Have you ever felt that God was distant from you? Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” Do you notice the “in truth” part? It does not say, “to those who are throwing tantrums or having pity parties.” It says in truth, meaning that we realize that when we focus on God and are grateful for all He has done in our lives, we will never lose sight of Him – we will see Him right by our side, working all things to our good.
Friend, learn from my mistake – never focus on what you do not have or what you can no longer do. Instead focus on the God who created you as a unique individual and who loves you, and has always loved you and will always love you, no matter what! Our God is awesomely huge and has overcome everything this world could possibly throw at you. Will you ask Him to help you? Will you recognize Him standing right next to you? Will you come to him in truth and ask for His help?
I pray you will and I pray that whatever your going through today, these words will mean something to you in such a way that you will act on them as truthfully ask God to refocus your eyes on Him and then like me, you can watch your fearful tears turn to tears of joy and gratitude.
